Make 2010 the year of goals, plans and change!

Yes, it’s that time of year, again! Making 2010 the year of goals, plans and change. As you plan for 2010, do you know how to really achieve those goals for your business?

An approach to planning focuses on 90 day ‘chunks’ of time.  Strategic planning, looking out 1-3 years is an important and valuable exercise but often lacks the detail to identify and ‘connect’ the necessary actionable steps that enable us to achieve our goals.  Using a detailed 90 Day Plan format helps to create the required detail for the critical steps that achieve real results. How do you eat an elephant?  One piece at a time.

“Start with the end in mind” (Covey).  For your 90 Day Plan, identify the specific, measurable and achievable goals (results) that are most critical to your success.  These stated goals must be aligned with your business plan and longer term strategic goals.  Work backwards defining the specific steps that must be completed to realise the goals.  Define the ‘success markers’; measurable interim results that show progress towards each goal.   Assign the steps to the right resources in your organisation, communicate the plan to your team and provide the leadership and motivation to achieve them.
