PURPOSEFULLY PREPARING FOR DEATH CAN BENEFIT EVERYONE Most Australians consider talking about death and dying as important however many don’t actively think, talk or prepare for death. Ironically, we plan for other life events: births, weddings, buying a house, a car, taking a holiday – yet many don’t plan for dying and death. An event that will affect us all. Many who die each year are not receiving care at the end of life that reflects their personal choices or needs leading to stress, uninformed decision-making and more complicated grieving. This is further exacerbated by limited available end-of-life services and a time-poor society with individuals often juggling family, work or other commitments.
In my role as an End of Life Doula, in the comfort of your own home, nursing home or hospital setting, I am actively ‘present’ and able to listen and facilitate discussions; advocate for and guide you on services and important documentation; encourage sharing of life stories and celebrations; and offer a peaceful presence as you proactively plan and prepare for end of life. Whether you are well, or living with a life-limiting illness, or supporting someone else (e.g. ageing parent/s).
Preparedness ~ peace of mind ~ informed decisions and choices are elements of my Doula role as I work alongside you , your loved ones and other health professionals to facilitate opportunities for a ‘good death’.
With an understanding of the complexities and challenges that are faced when ageing, illness or accidents occur, I offer services based on my past health professional experience and numerous personal losses; and promise authenticity, calmness and compassion as you migrate through these end-of-life transitions.
